Before your oral surgery, it’s important to understand what to expect during and after the procedure to ensure a healthy and speedy recovery.

Before Anesthesia

If you know you will be receiving anesthesia before your oral surgery, Dr. Tutu may advise that you do not eat or drinking anything for at least 8 hours before your appointment, and avoid smoking 12 hours prior. You will need to have an adult come with you to your appointment so that they can drive you home after the procedure. If you regularly take medications, please let us know before your appointment.

Tooth Extractions

With surgical tooth extractions, special care must be taken when following Dr. Tutu’s post-operative instructions. Following these instructions diligently will allow for the healthy and quick recovery of your smile! Dr. Tutu will arrange a follow-up appointment with you to ensure that the extraction sites are healing properly and discuss any side effects you may be experiencing.

Dental Implants

Following a dental implant surgery, we recommend that you rest comfortably for the next few days, optimally 48-72 hours. By resting, you can help speed the healing process and reduce the risks of bleeding. If you experience swelling, an ice pack can help reduce the swelling and accompanying discomfort if any.
