Dental Bonding in Houston, TX
Tooth bonding is one of the simplest and least expensive cosmetic dental procedures. It can be used to repair a decayed, chipped, fractured, or discolored tooth in a procedure that takes just one visit to our Houston, TX dental office.
Dental Bonding Procedure
The dental bonding material is made from a tooth-colored resin material, and unlike with veneers, little to no preparation to the teeth is needed for the procedure.
Your Houston dentist will begin the teeth bonding procedure by using a shade guide to select a composite resin color that most closely matches your natural tooth color. Then, the surface of the tooth will be roughened (etched) and a conditioning liquid applied to help the bonding material adhere to the tooth. The resin is then applied and molded and smoothed into the desired shape. Once that shape has been attained, a bright light or laser is shone onto the tooth to harden the material. The last step is to further trim, shape, then polish it once it’s been hardened. The procedure takes 30-60 minutes per tooth to complete.
Benefits of Dental Bonding
In addition to being an easy and affordable cosmetic dental procedure, dental bonding also has an advantage of requiring the least amount of enamel to be removed. It’s also non-invasive in that no anesthesia is normally required. It should be noted that composite resin isn’t as strong as natural teeth, so special care should be taken care when chewing particularly hard materials. However, with proper care, bonding can last for as long as ten years.
